Diploma in Educational Facilitation (Advanced) (120 Credits)

Graduates of this course will be able to identify and demonstrate some of the facilitation and coaching knowledge and skills required to contribute to quality learning outcomes in a range of education, learning and other related contexts.

100   Adult Learning Theories, Approaches and Practices Level 7

Holistic adult learner needs analyses, development, and motivational consideration are identified and reviewed in this paper alongside evidence supported adult learning theories, approaches and practices. Learners will demonstrate effective adult learning facilitation strategies and reflect critically on the theories, approaches and practices examined.

101   Scoping, Consultation and Engagement Level 7

Research processes and a range of philosophical, theoretical, conceptual, legislative and cultural considerations including the Treaty of Waitangi that support and give integrity to quality stakeholder consultations are examined.  The practical components in effective scoping, stakeholder and engagement consultation processes are identified and practiced.

102   Quality Educational Planning Level 7

Macro and micro educational planning processes are identified, examined and developed in this paper. Learners will also practice and critically evaluate and develop quality educational planning components and development processes.

104   Teaching, Assessment, and Moderation Approaches Level 7

Teaching, assessment and moderation approaches and methodologies are identified, examined and compared and contrasted by learners in this paper. Learners will also design, and critically evaluate related teaching, assessment and moderation developments.

107   Advanced Facilitation Practice Level 7

Fundamental, advanced, and influential communication skills and learners personal facilitation styles will be identified and developed through practical experiences.  A range of facilitation styles and approaches to develop partner, team and role awareness will also be critically examined and practiced alongside motivational techniques and approaches.

113   Elective Project Level 7

Learners will elect and formally propose and conduct an evidence-based practice project they wish to undertake to support mastery of knowledge, and skills in a area of interest or career relevance. Learners will conduct initial scoping, plan, present and propose, then research and implement their project before self assessing, reviewing and evaluating the project undertaken. The Elective Project culminates in a professional presentation to a small professional audience.

Educational Facilitation Course Entry Criteria

Applicants must hold a formal level 5 Diploma qualification at least or an equivalent, and have at least 2 years teaching/assessment experience in an education setting. Applicants for whom English is not their first language will also be required to have achieved Academic IELTS 6.5 level (or equivalent).  As part of the selection process all applicants will be required to submit an application form, curriculum vitae, and statement about their career goals. Applicants may also be interviewed to evaluate their suitability for the course.
