Sera-Anne: NZIE Graduate – NZIM Diploma of Management Level 5

I found out about New Zealand Institute of Business (NZIE) via word of mouth as my brother had been at their Avonmore I.T. school. I’d looked at other business schools but NZIE catered to my needs and was convenient to home, being in Takapuna.

I started off with the NZ Diploma in Management Level 5 which I finished in April 2011 and at the moment I am doing my Level 6 Diploma in Business.

I think what I really enjoyed was the different Tutors from different backgrounds, a real variety which is a good thing.

You get awesome support at NZIE, I can’t tell you! As a Mum and a wife, for those who want such support, NZIE is the place to go.

To students who are thinking of studying this course, I’d say go for it, especially if you are on the North Shore, I wouldn’t look past NZIE to be honest. You don’t have to be worried or stressed about not getting help from the Tutors. One on one it’s available and you don’t need to worry about taking up their time. Also I want to say it’s not too late for young Mums out there, I’d really encourage young Mums, and it’s not just about study as they’ve got a Recruitment Advisor as well! You get help volunteering, different jobs and getting work experience all through different employers.

I also attended CV and Interview Skills Workshops which I use a lot, I’ve helped 2 others do their CV’s already! It also was very, very valuable learning interview skills, the do’s and don’ts! I’d been doing some of the don’ts. It’s also relevant information for this day and time, not ‘back in the day’.

I’ve also been a Student Representative for NZIE’s Local Business Advisory Committee, I found it good feedback from employers what they expect/look for. Also whether we’re learning the correct papers that are relevant to them, not going through study and finding it’s totally different out there. It’s awesome that NZIE go out and ask local employers their opinions, gathering evidence, even from the local Council!

Yes, I felt very supported, enormously, no better word. Definitely one of NZIE’s major strengths, the care and support they have for their students. They get to know staff and students, you can discuss anything with them and they motivate me.

There is no limit to how far I can achieve, and it keeps getting better and better!

After the course, I was looking for a job and managed to find one via Avonmore’s employer network straight away. They put me in touch with a Takapuna company that are network specialists and now I’ve been here for seven months as a trainee Network Engineer!
