Diploma in Curriculum Design & Academic Management (120 Credits)

Graduates of this one-year full-time, two years part-time course will achieve and be able to demonstrate the professional knowledge, skills, andDiploma in Curriculum Design and Academic Management (Level 7) values to lead quality higher education curriculum designs and quality assurance systems and projects. Over the duration of the course, learners will lead a higher education curriculum design and manage elements in a quality assurance system.

100   Adult Learning Theories, Approaches and Practices Level 7

Holistic adult learner needs analyses, development, and motivational consideration are identified and reviewed in this paper alongside evidence supported adult learning theories, approaches and practices. Learners will demonstrate effective adult learning facilitation strategies and reflect critically on the theories, approaches and practices examined.

102   Quality Educational Planning Level 7

Macro and micro educational planning processes are identified, examined and developed in this paper. Learners will also practice and critically evaluate and develop quality educational planning components and development processes.

103   Programme Components Level 6

Components in higher education programme designs are identified, examined and developed in practice by learners.  The achievement of programme coherence and unity is also analysed, practiced and critically evaluated.

104   Teaching, Assessment, and Moderation Approaches Level 7

Teaching, assessment and moderation approaches and methodologies are identified, examined and compared and contrasted by learners in this paper. Learners will also design, and critically evaluate related teaching, assessment and moderation developments.

105   Curriculum Design Project Management Level 7

 

Knowledge, skills and effective management of identified project components are examined and practiced by learners in this paper. Learners will also compare and evaluate project management approaches and demonstrate their professional abilities in managing an educational project.

106   Educational Evaluation and Quality Assurance Level 7

Learners will review and critique a range of evaluation and quality management approaches before identifying appropriate frameworks, approaches, components, and methods for a particular setting.  Individual components in organisational evaluation and quality management systems will be developed and evaluated in relation to risk, ethical and effectiveness criteria.

107   Advanced Facilitation Practice Level 7

Fundamental, advanced, and influential communication skills and learners personal facilitation styles will be identified and developed through practical experiences.  A range of facilitation styles and approaches to develop partner, team and role awareness will also be critically examined and practiced alongside motivational techniques and approaches.

108   Curriculum Design Leadership Level 7

Learners will examine and analyse a range of leadership styles and approaches including their own in this paper.  Plans will be developed and undertaken to enhance personal awareness and develop knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that support effective educational leadership practice.

Diploma in Advanced Curriculum Design & Academic Leadership (180 Credits)

Graduates of this one and a half year full-time or three year part-time course will achieve and be able to demonstrate the professional knowledge, skills and values to critically lead and innovate in the field of quality higher education curriculum design and quality assurance system development.  Over the duration of the course, learners will lead the development and design of an innovative higher education programme and associated quality assurance systems.

A range of programme design approaches will be examined and critiqued by learners who will demonstrate their abilities to appropriately select and invent an innovative programme design approach.  Learners will also practice academically defending and analysing factors which may impact on a programme design.

110   Curriculum Design Business Level 7

A range of business related knowledge and skills will be developed through the identification, formulation and analysis of a range of business documents and processes.  Learners will integrate programme design components and elements with significant business, marketing and intellectual property considerations, requirements, and factors.

111   Programme Philosophy, Theory and Concepts Level 8

Philosophies, theories, and concepts will be defined and located to underpin and unify programme designs. Learners will also critically evaluate the appropriateness and coherent application and integration of philosophical, theoretical and conceptual frameworks and other factors in programme designs.

112   Curriculum Design Research and Ethics Level 8

Research approaches and process components are identified and examined in relation to the support they provide to the professional programme designer.  Learners will also examine ethical codes, dilemmas and issues faced by educational programme designers.

Curriculum Design & Academic Management or Leadership Course Entry Criteria

Applicants must hold a formal teaching Qualification (i.e. Certificate in Adult Teaching) or equivalent, and have at least 2 years teaching experience in a Higher Education (or other) educational setting.  Applicants for whom English is not their first language will also be required to have achieved IELTS 6.5 level (or equivalent).  All applicants will be required to write a statement about their professional goals and rationale for seeking entry into the course. Applicants without a formal teaching qualification may be able to enter these courses upon successful completion of a prescribed preliminary paper, Adult Learning Theories, Approaches and Practices.
